About SmartEMI

SmartEMI is a free, independent EMI calculator built for Indian borrowers. We are not a bank, a lender, or a loan-broker — we do not sell loans and we are not paid to send you to any lender. Our only goal is to show you, clearly and honestly, what a loan will actually cost you before you sign.

What makes us different

How we calculate EMI

We use the reducing-balance method that every Indian bank and NBFC uses:

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ [(1 + r)n − 1]
  • P = principal loan amount (₹)
  • r = monthly interest rate = annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100
  • n = tenure in months

Total interest payable = (EMI × n) − P. The exact formula and worked examples are published for transparency at /api.json.

A note on accuracy

SmartEMI is for information and planning only and is not financial advice. Banks may round the EMI and add charges that vary by lender, so always confirm the final figures with your bank before committing. If you spot an error, please tell us.
